TO: Student Preachers FROM: Peg Thomas, Anglican Studies Coordinator RE: Preaching opportunities at the Friday Anglican Eucharist Fridays when classes are in session there is a Eucharist service in the Anglican (Episcopal) tradition at BTS. The service starts at 12:00 Noon. This semester the service will be held in the Chapel. All are welcome. Lessons for the service will be taken from Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2000, either for saints or for the weekdays of Lent. In these saints we "honor men and women whose lives represent heroic commitment to Christ and who have borne witness to their faith even at the cost of their lives" (Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2000, page v.) Typically a short sermon, homily, of 3-5 minutes is offered. I would like to offer these preaching opportunities to BTS students, both Episcopalians and those of other faith traditions. Here are a few guidelines for potential Thursday preachers: 1. Attend at least one Thursday Eucharist before you preach. Attending at least one service will give you a sense of the flow of the service. You’re welcome to attend more! 2. Offer a 3-5 minute homily using the lessons appointed and, when we are celebrating a saint, connecting that person’s life, the lessons and our lives today.
(Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2000, page v.) 4. Contact me, Peg Thomas, if you are interested in preaching or if you would like to talk about the possibility. Home office: 326-0892; email: pthomas@hypernet.com |
