Fall 2008

ST1725: Issues in Modern Theology: God and Human Rights

Instructor: Clifton F. Guthrie: Bangor Theological Seminary, Bangor Campus

Fall, 2008, Wednesdays, 6 to 9 p.m.

Description: The Christian theological tradition, with its affirmations of a God who creates humanity in God’s own image and identifies in Christ with the world’s suffering, is in a special position to engage in the global dialogue on human rights.  This course will explore both those who assert that Christian faith gives rise to human rights and those who question whether human rights really exist or are Western liberal abstractions.  Biblical and theological anthropology will ground our discussion as we move on to recent critical theological proposals and Christian responses to cases abroad and at home.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Needed: Pastor or Interim Minister or Extended Pulpit Supply:
The Gilsum Congregational Church is a very small village church in a village of 800 located about 10 miles north of Keene, New Hampshire.
Our minister passed away last October and we have been using supply ministers ever since, with some pastors coming regularly. One of our visiting pastors, Rev. Robert Hamm, recommended we contact you. We have a small, but committed membership of 25 on good days. Some of these people have been attending the church for many, many years. We could use the support and guidance of a regular pastor or a long-term interim pastor. We are an easy-going, UCC bunch for the most part. People come from different faith backgrounds. If you have student or graduate who may be within driving distance willing to help, fantastic. We do pay a stipend for visiting ministers of $110. Interested? Please contact Jan Fiderio  Phone:603 357-9636 email:jfiderio@comcast.net  church phone:603-357-2245
