“David is that rare combination of down-to-earth teacher and enthusiastic scholar. I met him while we were both teaching in the Iowa Conference’s CENTER/LEARN program – a conference-based school for those seeking to be licensed lay ministers or Christian educators. His friendly, respectful approach to audiences and students make him a favorite at the CENTER/LEARN events. I find his excitement about teaching and dialogue around biblical topics refreshing and infectious. Wonderful collegiality across the board!”
Dr. Marian R. Plant, Defiance College and member of St. John UCC, Defiance.

WORKSHOP (12:30 – 2:00 pm)
Here’s an opportunity to “play in the texts” of the New Testament. David will bring copies of some of the real manuscripts, and we (students, pastors, Christian educators, laity) will get the chance to work and discuss text-critical issues. Knowledge of Greek not required! Think of the possibilities for sermon insights, info to share with bible study groups and confirmation classes, and the simple pleasure of exegetical practice among colleagues!
LECTURE (7:00-8:30 pm)
David will focus on the “manuscript hunt” he undertook during his recent sabbatical – a “hunt” involving several of the ancient manuscripts of the Letters of Paul used to establish the Greek text of the New Testament. David has plenty of pictures to show and stories to tell about what he discovered as he compared various ancient texts housed for safe keeping in libraries spanning Europe and Russia. He is excited about showing how all this is relevant to the understanding of the New Testament.
