Exegetical Paper

Find a topic

Choose a topic you are interested in. If this is the first paper you write or if you feel you need my approval, type the first page of your paper and hand it in next session. Formulate the question you are interested in and how you plan to proceed in search for an answer. I will react to it.

Outline

In the first part of the paper your argument should be based on the biblical text only. Do not quote from any sources outside of the Christian Bible (OT and NT). Please try hard to find a solution that satisfies the text evidence.

In the second part you will consult scholarly literature, review your text observations and formulate an answer to your question.

Formal requirements

The text has to comply with the standards of any manuscript handed in for publication. This means: The text must be carefully typed, the bibliographical references must be exact, footnotes must correspond to the critical marks in the text etc.

Grading

30 points maximum (3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent; => 24 is good)

Tips

When you write this paper, think of your classmates. Write it for them. I may post your paper on the web.

If you come across a problem, try to solve it in a way that makes sense to you. You do not always need to contact me. I will react to your paper and give you feedback about what you did well and what you should do differently in your next paper.
