Homework for 11/8+11/15

  1. Write your paper. Excerpt from the syllabus:

Paper with bibliography 15 pages. You are expected to describe a primary source of your choice  and discuss its historical value. Sources to choose from are: Jesus in Koran, Jesus in Rabbinic literature, Jesus in one extra-canonical gospel, in Paul, in Acts, in the General Letters. Or as an alternative you can follow the text book and pick an interpretation of Jesus (§8 charismatic leader, §9 prophet, §10 healer, §11 poet, §12 teacher) and relate it to the relevant sources. In this paper I want you to document that your are able to access and critically discuss primary sources on Jesus. Due date: 12/6/2006.

  1. Finish your paper. If you can get the paper to me by 11/29, either by email or snail mail (BTS, 159 State Street, Portland ME 04101), I will try to give it back to you during class and you have a chance to hand in an improved version at our last session. The paper is due 12/6.

  1. Fill out the quiz (fill it out before we meet again).
  2. Next time Rabbi Harry Sky will join us and interpret passages from Matthew 5-7 (Sermon on the Mount) from a Jewish perspective.
