The Steeple Society
The Steeple Society honors those graduates and friends who have helped ensure the future of theological education in New England by including the Seminary in their estate planning.
The Joshua Chamberlain Society, $10,000 and up
An illustrious alumnus of Bangor Theological Seminary who graduated in 1855, General Joshua Chamberlain served as a heroic leader of Union forces during the Civil War, as President of Bowdoin College and as Governor of Maine.
Abigail and Kiah Bayley Society, $5,000 to $9,999
Named in honor of a couple who were instrumental in the founding of BTS. Abigail made the first contribution to the Seminary, in the amount of $160, adding her prayer that “the Lord make it increase a thousand-fold.”
Jonathan Fisher Society, $1,000 to $4,999
Named in honor of the Reverend Jonathan Fisher, a founder and original trustee of the Seminary and the first minister of the Congregational Church in Blue Hill, Maine.
Enoch Pond Society, $500 to $999
Named in honor of Enoch Pond, Professor of Theology and first President of BTS, who served BTS for more than fifty years.
Cyrus Hamlin Society, $250 to $499
Named in honor of an 1837 graduate of BTS. Dr, Cyrus Hamlin was active in the mission field in Turkey. He founded Robert College in Constantinople and served as its president from 1860 to 1875.
Jehudi Ashman Society, $100 to $249
In honor of Jehudi Ashman, the first faculty member at Bangor Theological Seminary. Through his efforts, three additional faculty members were appointed and the Seminary began to grow.
