Immunization Requirements

Maine's post-secondary school immunization law, enacted in 1987, requires ALL full-time and part-time degree seeking students born after 1956 to provide Bangor Seminary with documentation of immunizations against the following diseases:

Diphtheria/Tetanus: One dose of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTP); diphtheria, tetanus (DT); or tetanus and diphtheria (Td) toxoid within ten years prior to enrollment at Bangor Seminary.

Measles (Rubeola): One dose of measles vaccine, administered after the student’s first birthday. Any student who was immunized prior to January 1, 1968, with Pfizervax Measles K (inactive measles vaccine) must be reimmunized. If it is not possible to determine the type of vaccine administered, reimmunization is necessary.

Rubella (German Measles): One dose of rubella vaccine administered after the student's first birthday.

Mumps: One dose of mumps vaccine administered after the student’s first birthday.

According to that law, no student may be allowed to be enrolled or to attend school without a certificate of immunization or other acceptable evidence of immunity for each disease. A certificate of immunization means a written statement from a physician, nurse or public health official who has administered the immunizing agent to the student, specifying the vaccine administered and the date it was administered. Secondary school health records may also be accepted as proof of immunization.

It is the responsibility of every student to see that the proof of immunization is submitted to the Registrar’s Office, Bangor Theological Seminary, before registration. Any student unable to obtain the above information will need to be reimmunized before registration.

Certain exemptions are generally recognized for specific medical, religious, moral, or philosophical reasons. Please submit a signed and dated statement from your doctor requesting a medical exemption. All other exemptions need to be formally requested in writing. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE EXEMPT FOR ANY REASON WILL BE REQUIRED TO LEAVE THE SEMINARY IF THERE IS AN OUTBREAK OF ANY DISEASE FOR WHICH AN EXEMPTION WAS GIVEN.

Please feel free to contact the Registrar's Office with any questions. Thank you for your cooperation.
