Bangor Theological Seminary has welcomed international students throughout its long history. As a prospective international student, you should plan on contacting the Admissions Office well in advance of your application. You should allow at least 6-8 months before the start of your intended semester to adequately complete this process (more if you have extenuating circumstances.)

International Student requirements:

 

Academic study for non-U.S. citizens is regulated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a division of the Department of Homeland Security. For more information, visit the ICE web page.

 

International students who are admitted to Bangor Seminary will be issued form I-20, providing they meet the following additional requirements:

A. TOEFL

If English is not your first language, submit scores from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Bangor Theological Seminary's designation code is 3335. More information regarding the exam, testing locations, and practice materials is available at www.toefl.com. A minimum score of 550 (paper) and 213 (computer) is recommended. The minimum score for the internet based test (iBT) is 80 (out of a possible 120).

 

B. Proof of Resources for Tuition/Living Costs:
You must send to Bangor Theological Seminary a certified bank statement showing assets, and/or proof of financial support if given through other persons/organizations. If other persons/ organizations will support you, the certified statement must list the names and addresses of these persons/ organizations.

 

Documentation must demonstrate that the student has the approximately $30,990 per year (estimated for the needs of a single person) that it costs to live and study in the United States per year. Please note the M.A. will take two years to complete, and the M.Div.  will take three years.

C. Proof of Resources for Travel Expenses:
A prospective international student must also send to Bangor Theological Seminary documentation of resources to cover return fare for travel to the point of origin for the student, and for the student’s family (if applicable).
