Bangor Theological Seminary appoints new Academic Dean
President Kent J. Ulery has announced the appointment of the Rev. T. Richard (“Dick”) Snyder, Ph.D., as Academic Dean.
An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Snyder has had a distinguished career, serving most recently as Senior Visiting Professor at American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley.
He is Professor Emeritus of Theology and Ethics and former Academic Dean at New York Theological Seminary.
He has published three books and numerous articles on the relationship between the church and social justice. His undergraduate degree is from Wheaton College and his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. are from Princeton Theological Seminary.
He is a founder and Chair of the Restorative Justice Project of the MidCoast and serves on the boards of the MidCoast Forum on Foreign Relations, and the United MidCoast Charities and for five years was on the board of the Maine Council of Churches.
Dean
Snyder succeeds Dr. Glenn Miller, whose term as Dean ended June 30th.
Dr. Miller has resumed full-time teaching in his role as Waldo Professor of
Ecclesiastical History.
Founded in 1814, Bangor Theological Seminary is an ecumenical Seminary in the Congregational tradition of the United Church of Christ. Since 1991 BTS has been a school in two places, with fully accredited campuses in both Bangor and Portland. |
