What
is Our Whole Lives?
Our
Whole Lives is sexuality education curriculum for five age groups:
grades K-1, grades 4-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, and adults (OWL for
Unitarian Universalist and Created in God's Image for United Church
of Christ).
This
workshop offers the specific training needed to teach grades 7-9 and 10-12.
Our
Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions
about their sexual health and behavior.
It equips
participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in human
development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health,
and society and culture.
Grounded
in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides not only
facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify
their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual,
emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
Our
Whole Lives curricula are based on the
Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality
Education produced by the National Guidelines Task Force
assembled by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United
States (SIECUS).
Our
Whole Lives covers topics and skills that both parents and students want
to have available but schools are less likely to cover.
To be certified as Our Whole Lives teachers,
individuals are expected to:
v
demonstrate a
commitment to a values-based, comprehensive sexuality education;
v
have a
willingness to affirm the Our Whole Lives program goals, values, and
philosophy;
v
have an ability
to provide a safe, engaging learning environment; and
v
have an
appreciation for working with people of diverse races, cultures, ages,
abilities, and sexual and gender orientations.
There is an evaluative component in the training and all participants are
asked to teach a practice lesson from the resource.
For more
information about Our Whole Lives, please see

Participants must attend
all sessions of the training.
