September 25, 2005![]() Theology Professor Robert Sherman reflects on Hurricane Katrina in the latest issue of Vital Theology.
Quick conclusions that we somehow deserved or caused this devastating storm betray an arrogance akin to that of Job’s friends. Creation can be both benign and malevolent, yet discerning the particular hand of God’s providence at work in it usually requires prayerful listening and time, not instantaneous pronouncements. But a ready willingness to surrender treasure and time in order to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and give shelter to the homeless – this is what Christians should be about in the days and months ahead.
