Third Century Survey for Re-imagining the Future of BTS

The Third Century Committee, chaired by the Reverend Gary DeLong, has been working to engage with numerous constituents of Bangor Theological Seminary in the process of re-imagining our future, seeking new and relevant ways to carry out our mission of equipping and supporting faith leaders and faith communities for ministry in the twenty-first century. While we mourn the loss of BTS as a graduate degree-granting theological school after June 2013, we believe that BTS will continue to make meaningful contributions to the life of the church, in Northern New England and far beyond.

In addition to focus groups, open forums, and numerous one-on-one conversations, this survey is an opportunity for interested alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of BTS to share their thoughts and ideas about future initiatives. The Third Century Committee is very interested in hearing your ideas about BTS’s future.

Already, 100 people have completed the survey. We really hope to hear from you! The survey can be found at Please submit your responses by August 1. Thank you for your participation!

Staff Announcement

Caroline Hammond in the Business Office has been offered (and accepted) a position at the Bangor Public Library, which will start July 1. She is willing (and the library is agreeable at this point) to allow her to continue to help us with our transitional needs. She is committed to helping us negotiate the closing out of our fiscal year financial process, including the end-of-year audit. As we clarify how we will meet our specific needs for business office functions, we will let you know.  As the date for her "final" departure is known, we will advise accordingly.

President Robert Grove-Markwood noted, “I know I speak for all who know her, and are familiar with her work, in saying that we will miss her, and that her service to the Seminary has been so valuable. Our prayers and blessings will go with her, but not quite yet.”  We will keep you posted.

Thank you, Caroline!
