The Manual on Ministry of the United Church of Christ indicates that candidates for licensure, ordination and privilege of call to the ministry of the UCC must show adequate understanding of the history, theological roots, polity, and practice of the United Church of Christ. Normally this understanding is gained by participation in the life of a local UCC church and by a semester/quarter length seminary course on UCC history, theology and polity.
Not all people are able to take a seminary course. Committees on Ministry are encouraging enrollment in the Summer Institute to strengthen the ministries of the UCC. The Summer Institute, however, is not intended as an alternative to the regular history, theology, and polity courses provided in Master of Divinity programs at accredited seminaries, and normally taken by UCC students preparing for ordination. The cost of the seminar, including lodging and food, is equivalent to the costs of tuition for the regular Bangor Theological Seminary polity course.
Tuition & Fees:
Tuition for the Summer Institute is $300 for the two weeks. ($150 per week)
A $50.00 registration fee must be paid at the time of registration.
