- CMU343 Orientation to Leading Worship
Offers preparation for the
responsibility of leading worship and preaching in Protestant
congregations. Requirements include the preparation of a worship service
and sermon which use the liturgical resources of the students’
particular tradition, as well as the rationale for the theme of the
worship service and the type of sermon.
This course includes classroom exegetical work on
lectionary texts and a brief historical survey of the nature of Christian
worship.
No auditors please.

This course provides an opportunity to
prepare for, and participate in, Convocation 2002. Students will
read selected works by Fred Craddock, Luke Timothy Johnson, and Emilie
Townes and share their observations by email with other members of the
seminar. Participation in the electronic seminar is the required written
work.
An organizational meeting for this seminar
will take place January 9, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. During Convocation,
the seminar participants will gather every morning for an hour before the
day’s programming begins and will share meals on Monday, January 28th
and Tuesday, January 29, 2002. Wednesday afternoon, January 30th
will be devoted to a debriefing.
