In the fall of 1992, Bangor Theological Seminary became a school in three places. The reason for this institutional transformation was the search for a way to provide theological education throughout the area of northern New England. The Bangor campus reaches out to Maine's northern regions and to "Down-East." The Portland campus serves the rapidly expanding population of southern Maine and New Hampshire.  Bangor Seminary also serves the northern areas of Vermont and New Hampshire through the Doctor of Ministry degree, the Continuing Education program and the Certificate in Small Church Leadership

The philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre defined education as a conversation across different generations. Our two campuses, with their libraries, classrooms, and student lounges, provide opportunities for dialogues among students, faculty and community leaders. The dialogue, within and outside of class, is challenging and exciting.
