Course Offerings 2002-2003 Fall 2002 DS1713 The Emergence of Anglicanism (3 credits) Thursdays, 8:30 – 11:20 a.m., Bangor Campus Instructor: The Rev. Dr. Peg Thomas This course offers an in-depth exploration of the beginnings of Anglicanism. Particular attention will be paid to its historical roots from Augustine of Canterbury, the Celts, the Synod of Whitby; to its emergence in the Reformation in England and the Elizabethan Settlement; and to its continuing development during the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries including the influence of the Caroline Divines. Emphasis will be on significant historical events and theological controversies, and how these are apparent in the twenty-first century. Spring 2003 DS1714 The Emergence of the Anglican Communion (3 credits) Thursdays, 8:30 – 11:20 a.m., Bangor Campus Instructor: The Rev. Dr. Peg Thomas This course is an examination of the worldwide growth of Anglicanism. Study of the history, development and polity of the Episcopal Church in the United States will be used as a model for exploring Anglicanism in countries and cultures around the world. Study of the polity of the Anglican Communion will also be included, particularly the roles of the Lambeth Conference, the Primates Meeting and the Anglican Consultative Council. |
